In honor of our first two classes we're holding our first two writing contests!

For our first class, Mommy. Mother. Mama. Ma!, we’re giving away a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to one student. Just tell us about your favorite fictional mother. Tell us who, tell us why. Tell us in a way that only you can. Use prose, image, or mixed media. The mother can be a literary mother, from television, opera, or even a character in a story you wrote yourself. She can be dead or alive. She doesn't have to be human. Please keep submissions entries to 500 words or less. WINNER will have their prose or art featured on our blog, in addition to a full scholarship to Mommy. Mother. Mama. Ma! The class meets on Thursday evenings March 1st through March 29th from 6:30p-9 and is taught by writer, actress, and teaching artist Christine Heckman. Email all submissions to Please include the word "contest" in your subject line.

For our second class, Instagram Poetry, we are offering half off of the price of enrollment for one student. Submit photos of short, fragmented, free verse poems fused with any kind of visual art to us at Please include the word "contest" in your subject line. Presentation gives your poetry a whole new meaning. From typewriters to magnetic poetry to the backs of old photographs to even your crumbled up shopping list, where and how you write your poem matters. Break boundaries and present your poems in groundbreaking new ways. WINNER will receive a scholarship covering half of their tuition to our very first Instagram Poetry Class that pushes students to fight their inner censor and look at poetry in completely new ways. This class is taught by spoken word poet and teaching artist, Annie Baldwin and will begin on March 3rd and will run Saturdays from 6p-8 until April 14th. Remember, the more compelling, authentic, and shocking the better. Surprise us!
