Metaphor: Meaning and Consequence
This multiple session course, open to all adults, but aimed primarily at intermediate and advanced students, will investigate the meaning of metaphor. Through an extensive selection of written examples, students will learn the range of metaphor, simile, and analogy, and will become familiar with the uses of metaphor in writing. This course will maintain a steady focus not only on the written, but also on the cognitive meaning and uses of metaphor, and its inextricable connection with the production of language. By the completion of this course, the student will be equipped to understand metaphor as it appears inside daily phenomena, as well as how it functions on the page.
This class is taught by Ryan Block.
